The Chief Financial Officer
Trinity House – the General Lighthouse Authority for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar – is seeking an exceptional Chief Financial Officer to join its Executive Leadership Team. With a proud 500-year heritage of safeguarding mariners and the nation’s waterways, Trinity House continues to evolve and deliver essential safety services through innovation, efficiency and excellence.
As an Executive Director of the Lighthouse Board, you will play a central role in shaping and delivering Trinity House’s strategy, ensuring that public money is managed responsibly and spent efficiently and effectively. You will lead c50 people across several high-performing teams including Finance, IT, Risk Management, Audit, Procurement and Contract Management, driving improvement, transparency and value for money in everything the organisation does. Establishing robust governance and assurance frameworks sits at the heart of the role, ensuring full alignment with the Government’s Finance Functional Standard and DfT expectations. The CFO champions the highest standards of financial control, risk management and statutory reporting, providing trusted advice to the Accounting Officer and driving the effective implementation of audit recommendations.
This is a role for a strategic and commercially astute finance leader who can balance big-picture thinking with a hands-on, in-the-detail approach. The appointment requires an individual experienced in the management of public finances, combining sound judgement with the resilience and transparency required in an environment of close external scrutiny. You will be a Chartered Accountant and a member of a relevant professional accounting body, with experience at Assistant Director or Director level demonstrating an inspiring, inclusive and effective leadership style. The successful candidate will bring a collaborative, business-partnering approach, building trusted and influential relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including the Lighthouse Board, the Department for Transport, and other key partners.
