Vision and Mission

Vision

Trinity House’s vision is for the waters of England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar to be the safest to navigate anywhere in the world.

The organisation is proud of the reputation it has earned through more than five centuries of dedicated service to our island nation. While it honours its heritage, Trinity House remains forward-facing, continually evolving to meet new challenges and the changing needs of the modern mariner. This combination of tradition and innovation ensures that Trinity House remains both relevant and effective in a rapidly changing maritime environment.

As the custodian of the UK’s maritime safety network, Trinity House continues to support the industry that carries up to 95% of the UK’s international trade, keeping the lifeblood of the economy flowing safely and efficiently, and securing the nation’s place in the 21st-century global economy.

Mission

As a General Lighthouse Authority, Trinity House’s mission is to deliver a reliable, efficient, and cost-effective aids to navigation service for the benefit and safety of all mariners. The remarkable story of Trinity House is one of innovation and adaptation, over hundreds of years, and that spirit of innovation remains a strong part of its culture today. Its ambition reflects considerable expertise in the delivery of aids to navigation, from setting and reviewing the navigational requirement to delivering the service to mariners, to internationally renowned research and development. Not only does the ambition to innovate and continuously improve its service continue today, it extends to being more visible and more influential on the national and global stages.

To do so, Trinity House works closely with respected national and international partners, including the Northern Lighthouse Board, Irish Lights, the Maritime & Coastguard Agency, the UK Hydrographic Office, and the International Organization for Marine Aids to Navigation (IALA). Through these collaborations, it maintains the highest standards of safety, service, and stewardship across the maritime sector.
