Message from Rear Admiral Iain Lower CB

Thank you for considering the role of Chief Financial Officer at Trinity House.

I am extremely proud to have joined the Corporation of Trinity House in early 2024 as the Deputy Master and the Chief Executive of the General Lighthouse Authority. Trinity House is a fascinating, globally renowned organisation with a nationally important role as an aid to navigation provider whose name is synonymous with maritime safety. Due to the breadth of our responsibilities and enviable heritage, you would be hard-pressed to find a corner of Britain’s maritime sector in which we are not involved in some way.

In our capacity as a General Lighthouse Authority and a Non-Departmental Public Body of the UK Government, we have a statutory duty to deliver a reliable, efficient and cost-effective aids to navigation service for the benefit and safety of all mariners. Simply put, our vision is for the waters of England, Wales, The Channel Islands & Gibraltar to be the safest to navigate anywhere in the world.

Our new strategy, Lighting the Way to 2035, clearly sets out our ambition to be “a values-led, well-led, match fit organisation with people who want to join us, grow with us and advocate for us”. Our new WAVE values are Working together to Achieve excellence; Value each other to Evolve with ambition.

These are therefore exciting times for Trinity House.

As CFO you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Trinity House. Beyond ensuring robust financial stewardship, you will be a key partner in delivering our strategic ambitions, including supporting the replacement of our ships, by delivering financial sustainability through sound planning, value for money, and cost control. You will help us embed environmental, social and governance principles and support our commitment to a sustainable and inclusive future. You will also champion a digital-first mindset, equipping our people and systems to operate securely, more efficiently and innovatively. Building strong relationships with key stakeholders and partners in Government and the maritime sector will be essential—fostering collaboration, transparency, and trust in all that we do, while championing the best possible outcomes for Trinity House.

This is a unique opportunity to lead the financial strategy in a historic, values-led organisation with a vital role in UK maritime safety.

You can make a real difference here. I look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to the team.

Rear Admiral Iain Lower CB

Deputy Master and Chief Executive Officer of the General Lighthouse Authority for England, Wales, The Channel Islands and Gibraltar.
